Over the years, the continuous development of an ignition system has advanced – and with it, the ignition coils used by car manufacturers.

Ignition coil technology can generally be split into two fundamental operating principles: ‘single spark technology’ and ‘dual spark technology’.

With single spark technology, an individual coil is supplied for each spark plug.

With dual spark technology, one coil always actuates two cylinders simultaneously.

Due to the high demands placed on ignition coils, the materials and design used must be resistant to heat and moisture in the engine bay and function reliably.

The housing mustn’t be harmed by oil and petrol vapours, as damage to the housing would impair function.
