The Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger enhances the cooling capacity of your BMW M3 or M4 from 2015 to 2020.
Air-to-water intercooling is the method for more efficient heat transfer from the charged air, but it now requires an additional heat exchanger mounted at the front of the vehicle to dissipate the transferred heat.
The S55 engine powering the F8X generation of the M's delivers significant power, and while BMW engineers established a solid foundation for dissipating heat from the intercooling system, we identified opportunities for enhancement.
We began by removing all plastic components from the design, replacing the end tanks and ports with durable aluminum.
The dual-pass flow through the core is maintained for maximum cooling properties, while the core is expanded into the available space.
Our updated design features a core thickness of 42mm and an increased height of 150mm, resulting in a 60% increase in core volume and a 180% increase in external fin surface area.
The outcome of our enhancements is a 9°F reduction in global intercooling system temperatures compared to the stock unit.
Size is not the only important factor for this heat exchanger.
As it is positioned front and center in the M3 and M4's cooling stack, it is vulnerable to damage from road debris.
To protect your air-to-water system, our heat exchanger includes a steel mesh stone guard for added protection of the fins.
Additionally, we designed a variable fin pitch for the lower 12 rows on the core to facilitate cooling for DCT equipped M's.
Lastly, our Performance Heat Exchanger comes with the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty for a worry-free installation.
