Bypass shocks utilize external tubes to create a shock with multiple compression zones.
Typically, there will be a tube bordering the compression zone at ride height that allows fluid to freely move around the piston, giving a supple ride.
Once uneven ground is encountered, the piston moves upward, closing off the port and forcing all fluid through the valving, which substantially increases the shock’s resistance in this secondary zone.
The tubes (one for compression, one for rebound) are fitted with one-way check valves and feature damping adjustment for fine tuning.
Bypass style shocks are ideal for rigs that run at high speeds over rough terrain where they must endure repeated long travel, fast piston speed, and high intensity suspension events.
