At Factor 55, a version of our custom ultra short flat straps has been used for years to assist in a variety of useful vehicle recovery applications.
Unlike typical recovery/snatch straps, these short straps are not constructed in the same way.
Designed to serve as a versatile short soft link for vehicle attachment, the Shorty Straps are made of ultra low stretch (low energy storage) polyester, unlike high stretch nylon found in typical snatch straps.
Applications vary from easily attaching to vehicles lacking recovery points to using your winch and Shorty Strap for field repair or straightening bent steering components like tie rods and drag links.
The flat shape of the straps prevents rolling and twisting when attached to tubular shapes such as bumper stingers, steering components, and nerf bars.
We prefer flat straps over round ropes for this reason.
Even polyester webbing materials retain a small element of material stretch, and since the total energy stored depends on the percent of stretch and the overall length of the strap, we designed the strap to be as short as possible while still retaining the necessary webbing overlap and stitch count for the rated loads.
The overall length of the Shorty Straps is 3 Feet, which reduces to only 1.5 Feet long when used in the common basket configuration.
Low stretch and energy storage equate to less recoil energy during a possible component failure.
