The 4 pack Strap Trap from Erickson was designed to address the issue of excess webbing.
The mechanism of the Strap Trap is similar to a mouse trap; lift the clamp that is spring loaded and place the folded webbing under the clamp, then release the spring loaded Strap Trap to trap the excess web.
It is simple and effective.
