Over the years, the continuous development of an ignition system has advanced – and with it, the ignition coils used by car manufacturers.

Ignition coil technology can generally be split into two fundamental operating principles: ‘single spark technology’ and ‘dual spark technology’.

With single spark technology, an individual coil is supplied for each spark plug.

With dual spark technology, one coil always actuates two cylinders simultaneously.

The high demands placed on ignition coils require that the design and materials used must be resistant to heat and moisture in the engine bay and function reliably.

Oil and petrol vapours must not harm the housing, as damage to the housing would impair function.
