Over the years, the continuous development of an ignition system has advanced, along with the ignition coils used by car manufacturers.

Ignition coil technology can generally be split into two fundamental operating principles: ‘single spark technology’ and ‘dual spark technology’.

With single spark technology, an individual coil is supplied for each spark plug.

In dual spark technology, two cylinders are actuated simultaneously by one coil.

The design and materials used must be resistant to heat and moisture in the engine bay due to the high demands placed on ignition coils.

The housing must not be harmed by oil and petrol vapours, as damage to the housing would impair function.
