During the development of AWE's exhaust systems for the 2.0T Q5 with performance software, high intake air temperatures were noted.
The stock intercooler could not effectively cool the intake charge at these performance levels, allowing temperatures to rise and hinder performance as RPMs increased.
Thus, AWE developed the Front Mount Intercooler for the Q5 to regain control of intake temperatures.
Using CAD modeling software, AWE designed an intercooler with a significantly larger core/end tank package than stock, reusing robust factory hoses and clamps to keep costs down.
This end tank design, proven on multiple platforms, was employed.
Tests revealed that the AWE FMIC could reduce Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) by up to 31F over stock, a nearly 25% difference.
This substantial drop in IATs enhances performance, especially in warmer climates and higher power applications.
Whether running enhanced software or planning a larger turbo upgrade, the AWE intercooler addresses all heat-related issues that come with increased turbo boost.
